TBP Auto’s Vietnam Brake Drum Factory Acquires ISO 14001

Introduction

Major automotive OEMs have required ISO 14001 from their suppliers for a while now. That expectation has since filtered through the supply chain, and environmental management is now a routine part of supplier qualification in many commercial vehicle programs. TBP Auto’s Vietnam brake drum factory has earned ISO 14001 certification, building on our existing ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 as part of a broader, structured approach to factory management.

What ISO 14001 Involves

ISO 14001 is not a product standard and it does not test brake drums. It evaluates whether a factory has a structured system for identifying, measuring, and reducing its environmental impact – and whether that system improves over time.

In a brake drum foundry, that spans energy use, emissions, and waste across casting, machining, and finishing. The standard requires these to be tracked and controlled through documented processes, audits, and regular reviews, with systems in place to flag gaps and drive improvement.

Where It Applies Across Our Production

Instead of treating environmental management as a separate initiative, we focus on understanding how resources move through production.

By analyzing material usage, machining output, and energy consumption across each stage, we’re able to identify where inefficiencies occur – and address them with targeted adjustments. This approach improves both environmental performance and operational consistency.

Below is a breakdown of where ISO 14001 applies across TBP Auto’s brake drum manufacturing stages:

Production Stage Environmental Factor What We Manage
Casting Energy consumption, furnace emissions Melt efficiency, emission controls, raw material yield
Machining Metal waste, coolant use Waste sorting, coolant recovery, chip recycling
Finishing Chemical exposure, surface treatment waste Controlled disposal, process standardization
Packing & Shipping Packaging materials, transport efficiency Material reduction, load optimization
Facility-Wide Water, electricity, general waste Consumption tracking, reduction targets, regular review

None of these are dramatic changes individually. But collectively, they mean every stage of production is being monitored for environmental performance – not just product quality.

Meeting a Changing Global Standard

For distributors and fleet operators sourcing parts internationally, supplier evaluation is getting more involved. Price and delivery still lead the conversation, but environmental and operational governance is increasingly part of the criteria – particularly for buyers who sell into OEM or Tier 1 channels where these standards are already baseline expectations.

As global markets place greater emphasis on environmental responsibility, ISO 14001 ensures that TBP Auto remains aligned with those standards.

Three Standards, One Factory

With ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001, TBP Auto’s brake drum factory operates under a comprehensive system covering quality, environmental responsibility, and workplace safety. Together, these standards create a structured and consistent approach to manufacturing – supporting reliable performance as we expand in the North American market.
